Two Songs That I connected With (2)
My second song is "People Help The People" by either Cherry Ghost or Birdy. Again I have no memory of when I first heard the song, but I remember loving it every time I heard it. Then earlier this year I heard it again on the blog of one of the students in out philosophy class (I think it was Jasmine's Blog). I immediately recognized the song even though singer was different. I think I connected with it because I think that everyone reaches a point in their life where they're really low, and really just need one person to acknowledge them. This song has made me cry more than once. I think it's about how people sleep around and with broken hearts. Other people's hearts and their own hearts and everyone hides how much they hurt and miss places, people and time periods. It made me feel better because I liked the idea that even when we don't have the courage to show our true weakened emotions, God knows and he understands, and if he does maybe one other individual in the planet will. I think the song appeals to the lonely, lost soul in us all we all pretend we're so much better than we really are, deep down however, we're just a collective of lives and silent thoughts residing in separately from each other. I think the song says that every person you meet is shadowing a secret, a life experience a broken hear, their self worth. Behind their smile and everyday routines we're all waiting to be saved. I think the song is plea to not give up on humanity and to as people try to help others who are just like us.
Two Songs that I connected With
The fist song is "When you were young" By the Killers. I don't remember the exact moment in which I first heard the song but I heard it again my sophomore year. I really enjoy the music and the lyrics of the song. Whenever I hear this song i first think of Disney "You sit there in your heartache Waiting on some beautiful boy to To save you from your old ways". However I don't think the song is about a boy or romance. I think it's about the tendency for individuals to dream about the future and to think about the past, never really living in the moment. And while looking at the future and past one looses themselves and hope that someone will save them. When we're young we strive for perfection and we want to please people however as we grow old we realize that nothing is perfect and some of the lucky ones learn to move on from perfection. "They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet/ You don't have to drink right now/ But you can dip your feet/ Every once in a little while" I think this part of the song is saying that everyone makes mistakes and it's ok to let yourself be taken by them the important thing is to find yourself back. I also think its about loss of innocence and the ability to recognize hardship. "And sometimes you close your eyes And see the place where you used to live
When you were young" I think humans have a tendency to look back to a place where they were once happy, it's a way to escape the world, even if it's only for a moment. Overall I think the song is saying it's ok to look back or to hope for a fairytale but in the end we have to accept reality and continue moving forward in hope of something, and we might surprise ourselves.

Plato in Responce to the Simpsons
The goal of an individual is to return to the original and perfect form. Art however leads you away and hinders your ability to distinguish the form from the copy. Art misleads society and the artists are responsible for the undermining of reason and the dialect. Art evokes emotions based on the aesthetic appeal and our own flawed interpretations of it. It does not in anyway help the individual reach the true meaning of the object. Art is a shadow of a copy and those who defend art live in a cave of shadows never experiencing the reality and reason. The Simpson picture was group of people from a tv show, on the smart board projection from a computer. The connection from reality was lost by numerous shadows of shadows of shadows. The topics in the show have satire and comment provides societal commentaries however like the paradox of the parable of the singer, people will not pay attention to the commentary. People notice the comedy and the connections to themselves as individuals instead of confronting society head on.
